1 Billion Seconds
Confronted with the gravity of our 1 billion seconds left in life made us reevaluate our priorities and seize every moment with purpose.
Maja and me are back in Zagreb. The recent events served us as a stark reminder of the precious and fleeting nature of time. Every second that passes is the same for every person on this planet, yet it is up to each of us to decide how we spend it. At this point in our lives, we statistically have around 1 billion healthy seconds remaining (approximately 30 years).
One cannot help but wonder: who among us is truly contemplating the weight of these 1 billion seconds? How should we allocate this finite resource? Is it worth indulging in coffee, alcohol, and sugar if it means potentially sacrificing half of our remaining time? Pondering these questions inspired me to reevaluate the general guidelines I've set for myself when faced with life's obstacles.
First and foremost, it is essential to ensure that our hardware - our bodies - are operating at optimal levels. This means adhering to a simple, yet powerful mantra: eat, move, sleep, and repeat. By avoiding sugar, alcohol, and processed foods, we can create a solid foundation for a healthy and fulfilling life.
Next, we must cultivate a peaceful and resilient mind. Engaging in activities such as meditation, writing, and reading allows us to sharpen our mental faculties and develop the inner strength necessary to navigate the complexities of life.
Lastly, we should prioritize investing time in genuine friendships. A true friend remains by your side when everyone else has left, providing support, love, and understanding. It is crucial to distance ourselves from those who drain our energy, exhibit selfish tendencies, and lack a sense of purpose beyond their own self-interests.
While these three principles may seem simple on the surface, they are far from easy to implement in our everyday lives. However, when faced with the stark reality of our 1 billion remaining seconds, we must find the motivation to make every moment count. By nourishing our bodies, nurturing our minds, and cherishing authentic connections, we can make the most of the time we have left, and embrace each second with gratitude and purpose.
